For CCW I Choose The Glock 17

fits like a gloveIn my opening article I talked about my love of hunting, but it should be noted that I am also a CCW carrying gun enthusiast. The one you’ll find strapped to my waist is the Glock 17. There is a good chance that when Gaston Glock and his team came up with the Glock 17, they had no idea it would go on to become one of the world’s most popular firearms.

The Glock 17 was originally commissioned by the Austrian military, which was looking for a replacement for their service handguns. Army and police and Austria were seeking out a new kind of handgun, and they asked the Glock company – which was already doing business with the Austrian military – to submit an offer. Glock was already working with the Austrian forces, supplying them with training equipment.

After the full size, 9X19 pistol was chosen by the authorities, military and police began to carry it in 1982. Afterwards, other countries expressed their desire to get on board. Then, NATO made the Glock one of its official weapons, and even gave it a serial number.

The Glock 17 handgun is made up of 34 parts. That is pretty amazing. It is made primarily of polymer-2 – a high-strength, nylon-based substance which Gaston Glock himself had invented – and steel. This is what makes this gun lightweight, durable, and very reliable. Ironically, at first it was made fun of for being a ‘plastic gun’. Over 30 years later, Glock is still going strong.

If there was ever a doubt as to whether the Glock is really worth all of the praise it receives, all one has to do is take it to the range. You could put a Glock in the hands of an expert marksman, or a complete novice. Both of them will have no problems shooting this handgun. I own the 19 too but I prefer the 17. If you’d like to take a closer look at the two side by side take a look at this Glock 17 vs 19 article I found on Gunivore.com. It’s gets down to the key points.

Now back to our regular scheduled program…

The Glock proprietary Safe Action mechanism makes sure that the gun is safe, even with a bullet in the chamber. There are 3 separate safeties, even though there is no designated safety switch. It is also drop safe, when talking about reasonable heights.

Let’s take a look at some of this gun’s technical specifications:

glock 17 ccw8.03 inches long

1.18 inches wide

5.43 inches high

The length of the gun’s barrel is 4.48 inches

The height of the gun’s barrel is 1.26 inches

When loaded, the Glock 17 weighs 32.12 oz.

Magazines: 17 (standard) 10/33 (optional)

You can even set up a 100 or 200-round drum, if you want to, and really let all hell break loose from the muzzle of this great firearm.

The Glock 17 is still used by security forces around the world. Army, law-enforcement, government agents, and other types of personnel all use it. For some, it is a backup, for others it is a primary weapon. Regardless, it is used because it delivers. It does not fail, it does not break, it has manageable recoil (this depends on the generation, too), and it is affordable. Altogether, one of the best semi-automatic firearms in the market today.
